Copperband Butterflyfish
Species: Chelmon rostratus
Origin: Indo-Pacific
Max Size: ~8 inches
Care & Habitat:
• Minimum Tank Size: 75 gallons
• Temperature: 72–78°F (22–26°C)
• pH: 8.1–8.4
• Salinity: 1.020–1.026
• Hardness: 8–12 dKH
• Environment: Plenty of live rock for grazing and hiding
Diet:
Copperbands naturally forage on small invertebrates and can be finicky eaters at first. We take the time to train our copperbands to eat frozen and pellet foods, to greatly lessen the difficulty of keeping this fish in captivity.
Offer a varied diet of live or frozen foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, blackworms, and clam meat. They are also known to help control aiptasia (pest anemones).
Temperament & Compatibility:
Peaceful and shy; best kept with other non-aggressive tankmates. Suitable for peaceful community setups. Considered semi reef-safe — may occasionally nip at coral polyps or feather dusters.
Notes:
Best suited for intermediate to experienced aquarists due to their specialized feeding needs. With proper care, the Copperband Butterflyfish makes a striking and active addition to any marine aquarium.
